Aftermarket Auto Parts vs OEM Parts

Aftermarket Parts

Aftermarket parts refer to the parts that were not made or manufactured by the original car maker. In case of parts that are direct replacement, they will not void the warranty. A lot of companies around the globe manufacture aftermarket parts and sometimes they work better than the original ones. Shops and workshops around the world sell aftermarket auto body parts. It is better to research before deciding where to buy these spare parts from. Make sure you are getting in contact with the right person who sells the right information and parts as well.

Pros of Aftermarket Parts

Aftermarket spare parts are less expensive than the original parts. Depending on the brand, you save accordingly. You will have to shop around to see and get an idea about the cost of the part and if incase the price seems too good to be true, question its quality.

Aftermarket auto body parts come in a huge variety and they are readily available as well. Since there are a lot of companies manufacturing the same part, the price range is different and so is the quality. These aftermarket auto parts are easily available at local shops. You simply walk into the gas station and the guy will have almost every part available.

Cons of Aftermarket Parts

Having a huge variety for a single part could also lead you to purchasing a bad quality part. Some aftermarket parts are considered to be inferior due to the low quality they possess. Even though it is also a blessing on one hand, but if you are not aware of such things, you might get yourself into trouble.

OEM Parts

OEM parts are the parts that are manufactured by the car maker. They are a bit costly as compared to the aftermarket parts but not always.

Pros of OEM Parts

Since OEM parts are originally manufactured by the company itself, it is highly unlikely that the quality will be inferior. The biggest advantage is that you don’t have to go through the hassle of assessing qualities of different spare parts like in the case of aftermarket spare parts. You just walk into the dealership, tell them what you want or show them the sample and they will have exactly the same part for you in no time. In addition to that, these OEM parts come with warranty. In case they malfunction or wear out before the specified time period, you can get them replaced.

Cons of OEM Parts

As already mentioned, OEM parts are comparatively more expensive. It may be impossible for a car owner to buy a particular OEM part from the dealership. Not only that, OEM parts can only be bought from the dealerships, as they are not readily available at every shop. Since this limits the places where you can buy them from, it might be a hassle for you if you don’t live nearby. You can always order the parts, but since it will take time, your car will take longer to repair and as everyone nowadays is short on time, you can opt to go for aftermarket auto body parts.
